Best Review: SCM SCR3500 Smart Card Reader - So, I bought this thing to use with my 11" MacBook Air. The good news is that it works correctly. That said, there's a few caveats.- First, Apple took out most of the support for smartcards in OS X Lion. You'll need to add it back by installing the tokends from here: smartcardservices (dot) macosforge (dot) org- Second, you'll need the drivers for the reader itself from the manufacturer's website: identive-infrastructure (dot) com- Third, you can only use the smartcard to log into sites from Safari--it's the only browser that can touch the OS X Keychain.- Fourth, and probably most importantly, INSERT THE CARD ALL THE WAY INTO THE READER. There's a red LED that will light up once the card's in all the way. It sounds silly, but for the first few hours I thought I'd gotten a defective unit.When you've got it working, you should see your smartcard appear in the OS X Keychain Access as a "keychain".I've only used this reader to access websites--I have no idea if it'll support smartcard-based logins to the OS.
