The processor alone makes the approximate $500 cost a no brainer, then you add all the modern conveniences that make this a fantastic all around machine. There is very little bloatware compared with Dell, Gateway, HP/Compaq, and while I've read interesting perspectives on the "flimsy construction" and "oddly proportioned screen" I applaud Acer's effort and my overall impression is above expectation for such a low cost entry.The packaging is less than many other laptops of similar size, the setup is stupidly easy, and the only complaint I have was the combination of both Norton and McAfee software being pre-installed (and no, the Norton online backup software and McAfee "I think I'm an antivirus" software suite don't get along). Do yourself a favor and uninstall both, get Ccleaner, AVG2012 (paid of course), Google Chrome, and Slysoft's AnyDVD suite (for viewing of any region's DVDs without having to permanently adjust the device's region code) and you have the perfect tote-along performer.The device has tackled everything I've thrown at it from ripping and burning, media sharing, home and business networking, printer sharing, multi-region DVD playing (and transmitting to a television via HDMI), as well as being easily upgrade-able to 8GB RAM and a SSD.On a non-performance related issue, and this is more of a general grumble, is that it's a bit squatter in physical width and shorter in depth when closed for transport. This size issue makes using my existing 15" carrying solutions difficult if not impossible to use. Investing in a 16"+ carrying solution is a must if you intend to bring this with you everywhere you go. Backpacks will work as well, but who wants to deal with that extra unused space all the time when all you need is a pocket to carry the mouse and power pack.
